Platron is located in a modern 5,000 square foot facility in Hayward, California. We will work on single parts to high volume production runs. The following is a list of metals that can be deposited using Selective Plating. Platron offers these metals as well as others and will be glad to consult with your engineering staff to determine which would meet your company's needs.

Deposit Characteristics and Applications
CADMIUM LHENon-embrittlement of high strength steels - corrosion protection - Brinell 26 meets Mil. Std. QQP-416-B.
COPPERSeveral different solutions available ranging in hardness from Rockwell C18 to Rockwell C30, used for build-up, carburizing stop off. Meets MIL-C-14550.
GOLDUsed for electrical contacts, solderability, static seals, dry lubrication, ultrasonic bonding. Three hardnesses 90-130-170 Knoop. Meets Mil. Std. 45204B.
HARD ANODIZEUsed for hard non-conductive surfacing of aluminum. Meets Mil. Std. MIL-A-8625.
INDIUM(Semi-precious) Salt water corrosion protection, solderability. Brinell 2.
NICKELA wide range of different solutions including nickel alloys are available ranging in hardness from Rockwell C52 to Rockwell C60 (as deposited). Used for wear resistant deposits, corrosion protection, solderability (contains no phosphorous), maintaining conductivity and giving a hard wear surface and corrosion resistance to aluminum. Meets QQ-N-290.
PALLADIUMRockwell C42. Used as a catalyst. Also used for improving soldering and brazing on electrical contacts.
PLATINUMRockwell C48. Two main applications are corrosion protection and maintaining electrical continuity in severe environments, especially electrochemical situations.
RHODIUMRockwell C55.   Very hard, low coefficient of friction, excellent wear resistance. Arc resistant good electrical conductivity. Used with Gold to improve life of slip rings. Reduces wear on sliding electrical contacts.
SILVERSolderability, bus bar joints, dry lubrication. Brinell 105. Meets Mil. Std. QQ-S-365.
TINUsed for corrosion protection, R.F.I and E.M.I , screening gasket surfaces, solderability. Alloy with other metals for specific corrosion applications. Brinell 6. Meets MIL-T-10727.
ZINCCorrosion protection of ferrous metals. Brinell 8. Meets Mil. Std. QQ-Z-325.

Process Advantages

Only plate or anodize the area you require. This is not achieved by plating the part and stripping back which can cause damage to the base metal. Our system only plates or anodizes the area you require.

Adhesion: A test program conducted by the U.S. Navy Quality Control Laboratories has proven Selective Plating deposits to have more than double the bond strength of chrome plating and four times the bond strength of metal spray. The Selective Plating process does not cause thermal distortion of any kind, a great advantage over welding and spray techniques.

Wear and Corrosion Resistance: Most Selective Plating deposits are significantly harder and less porous than the same thickness of tank electroplated deposits. As a result, wear and corrosion resistance are greatly increased.

Thickness Control: Selective Plating deposits can be controlled so that a precise build-up thickness is achieved. In many cases this means no post-machining operations is required. This type of precise build-up control is not possible with welding, metal spray or conventional tank plating.

Portability: Platrons' Selective Plating system is completely portable, which means we can bring it on-site to your facility. This enables us to repair, in place, parts when it is either not possible, practical, or economically viable to remove them from their location. We also maintain a facility for in-house repairs and production runs.

Specifications: Both Platrons' technical personnel and the Selective Plating system we use fully meet all Military and F.A.A. specifications as well as many others.

The solutions we use do not attack the base metals: This means no extensive masking , keeping cost down.

Size of parts: We process parts from 1/2" square housings to 12 foot diameter rings to eight foot long castings.
